Introduction

Welcome to the on-line tutorial for Policy and Procedure Development. The modules linked below are short, self-directed learning modules for you to learn more about Policies and Procedures, which are an integral part of a health care agency.

This program was originally presented by Brenda Dunn, RN, BSN, MPH, Nurse Consultant at the Women’s Health Regional Meeting in February, 2007.

Learning Objectives:

• Review basic principles of policies and procedures
• Describe the difference between an agency policy and program policy
• Differentiate between a policy, a procedure, and a standing order
• Discuss basic principles and tips for writing policies
• Identify policy types, purpose, use, approval and review process
